Once the application has been installed, click the Skimmer icon to launch.
The first time you launch Skimmer, you will be taken through a short series of steps to get you up and running. You will be prompted to choose the -mail, password, and user name you want associated with your Skimmer app.
Next, tell Skimmer how to access your Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, and Blogger accounts. You have to authenticate at least one service in order to complete registration. Enter your login and password for each account you wish to activate. Some services, like Facebook, will open a small browser window to authenticate directly with the service. You don’t have to be a user of all these services, but the more you use them, the better your Skimmer experience will be.
Registering your accounts is how Skimmer keeps track of what you and your friends do. If you want to add or change your accounts later, click on SETTINGS (the wrench), and then on SERVICE ACCOUNTS. Your account credentials are encrypted and can’t be viewed by or shared with anyone, including us. While you are in Settings, click on AVATAR and make a wicked cool icon to represent yourself that will be the envy of all your Skimmer friends.
The main view for Skimmer is the FEED view. This is where all your and your friends’ content is aggregated across all the supported services. Skimmer’s default view is “medium,” but you can also select “small” to see more content at once or “large” to fully expand the panels. You can even view Twitpics in-line, without having to open a browser.
From small or medium view, you can expand any panel to view photos or play video. Rolling over the photo or video will allow you to view fullscreen, or as a slideshow for photos.
Make a profile page: If you click on the little person next to the wrench, MY PROFILE, you can arrange all your most recent activity in a simple, customizable layout. This is the view that your Skimmer friends will see. You can also go to Settings and then MY WEB SITE to get an embed code that allows you to publish your profile as a web site on your own url.
Select MY SKIMMER FRIENDS (the two little dudes) to see all your Skimmer friends and their most recent activity, and then click right into their profiles to view more.
See more of your friends’ activities: You will be able to see your friends’ activity on any given service only if you are already connected to them on that service. If you are friends on Facebook, you can see their Facebook activity in Skimmer. Similarly, if you want to see your friends’ Flickr or YouTube activity, you must be friends with them on each of those services. You can view more services for your friends by going to Settings and then ADDRESS BOOK. Here you can see which services all your Skimmer friends are using and those services on which you are not already friends. You can click the (+) symbols to add them right from the app.
By clicking on FLICKR or YOUTUBE, you can see all your own and your friends’ content on these two services. View photos by sets or photostream, play videos, and view or leave comments,
On the bottom left is UPLOAD. This is where you can upload content to Flickr and YouTube, including title, tags, and description.
